This means that the CSO considers the Healthy Ireland Survey to be a trusted source of information about the health of the nation. To earn this distinction, the survey had to meet a rigorous set of criteria outlined in the Irish Statistical System Code of Practice (ISSCoP) which was created to ensure that all official statistics produced by public bodies are accurate, reliable, and objective.
The Healthy Ireland Survey achieved this recognition for four key modules: General Health, Smoking, Alcohol, and Health Service Utilisation. These modules have been consistently featured throughout the survey’s history, providing valuable insights into the health trends of our nation.
To achieve this recognition the survey had to achieve five key criteria of the ISSCoP:
- Professional Independence: Ensuring that data collection and analysis are completely independent and free from any external influence, ensuring unbiased results.
- Timeliness and Punctuality: A commitment to delivering timely and up-to-date information, allowing for relevant and impactful analysis.
- Accessibility and Clarity: Making our findings accessible to everyone, ensuring reports are presented clearly and concisely, making them easy to understand for both experts and the general public.
- Commitment to Quality: Maintaining the highest standards of quality throughout the entire process, from data collection and analysis to reporting.
- Confidentiality: Recognising the sensitive nature of the information we collect and prioritising the confidentiality of all participants.
This recognition from the CSO is a significant milestone for the survey. It highlights its commitment to providing reliable and valuable insights into the health of our nation. We believe that this recognition will further strengthen the impact of the Healthy Ireland Survey and contribute to a healthier Ireland for all.
